THE GREAT OUTDOORS

One of Bristol’s many assets is its easy access to countryside. The limestone cliffs of Cheddar

Gorge, just 45 minutes’ drive from the city, offer plenty of scope for adventurous souls and scenic views. Closer to home,

Ashton Court is a bucolic urban escape of park and woodland. It’s also where the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta takes place in August every year. Go and witness up to 150 hot-air balloons take flight. bristolballoonfiesta.co.uk

THE LIDO

Utterly charming, the Lido is housed in a Grade II Listed Victorian building, which was saved from developers and reopened as a spa, outdoor pool and restaurant in 2008. After enjoying a swim and taking a treatment or two, dine at the critically acclaimed restaurant looking out over the pool. lidobristol.com

URBAN ART

The world’s most famous graffiti artist, Banksy, hails from Bristol, and many of his best-known works are dotted throughout the city. Local tour firm, Where the Wall, runs excellent trips to see his and other artists’ works. Alternatively, plan your visit to coincide with Upfest, Europe’s largest live street-art festival, which takes place in July of each year in the Bedminster district of the city. wherethewall.com; upfest.co.uk
