THE HOUSE OF HOOFT
QUIRKY BOUTIQUE BRAND
Kimpton has been popping up in America’s hippest cities for over three decades, offering guests playful design and atmosphere alongside personalised service. Finally jumping the pond to set down roots, the chain could hardly have chosen a more appropriate, individual city for its European debut – Amsterdam. The Kimpton De Witt opened just last month and is situated within three Dutch Golden Ageera buildings in the Palace Quarter neighbourhood in the heart of town. Whimsical, Dutch-inspired design is seen throughout in touches such as a “living wall” of florals and amusing interpretations of classical Dutch art, but it’s the PC Hooft I and II suites that have us anxious to book a stay. Spread across three stories linked by a spiral staircase, the suites were once the childhood home of Dutch renaissance playwright PC Hooft – the perfect place to remedy any niggling writers’ blocks.
