VILLAGE PEOPLE: LUXURY RESORT LIVING IN OMAN

-

IF YOU’VE NEVER EXPERIENCE THE WILD AND ROCKY coastline of eastern Oman, then perhaps its time to consider the short hike from Dubai, with a super exclusive, private development hewn into the cliffs near the rustic, sprawling capital. Construction on Muscat Bay, not far from the iconic Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa, began in 2012, when developers began landscaping the mountains to accommodate villas, residences and two hotels. The main resort hotel will be badged and operated by Jumeirah, offering 206 rooms and suites with direct access to the stunning beach, as well as the Zaha Parkland area, ideal for families. The second boutique hotel is also a Jumeirah property, offering an even more intimate and exclusive experience on the other side of the bay. The resort clubhouse, officially titled the “Experience Centre” is a third space concept where residents and tourists can enjoy the view from the deck and mingle in the café. Muscat Bay has also placed an emphasis on sustainability, with a full environmental impact assessment taking place prior to 2012, linking closely with the surrounding Qantab village to develop strong and enduring links with the local neighbourhood, as well as an overall design that’s in keeping with the valley and local architecture. And, while there are adjacent developments with their own respective marinas, upcoming phases of Muscat Bay will introduce a dedicated pontoon for boat owners to venture out and explore the waters – prime for fishing and sightseeing. “We call it a resort village not because of the standard but because of the community,” Paul Jessup, VP of Muscat Bay, told Destinations of the World News. “Some will come for a holiday and some will want to stay much longer.”
