Whether you’re luxuriating in lavender-infused aromatherapy or having heated basalt stones diffuse tension throughout your body, chances are that if you’re on board, your spa treatments come from the professionals at Steiner Leisure.

That’s because Steiner operates more than 200 luxury spas on land and sea, including spas on 160 ships from lines such as Seabourn, Cunard, P&O, Disney, Royal Caribbean, Windstar, and more. In order to continually offer the highest quality of products and treatments, Steiner works closely with cruise lines during the design of each spa, giving careful thought to guests and how to offer them the very best in beauty and health.

“We’re always reviewing existing services, and evolving new ones,” says Steiner Leisure’s Chief Operating Officer Glenn Fusfield. “We try to parallel our offerings so that you have the same first class experience at sea as you do on land.

“Spas were once considered a luxury; not anymore. A visit to the spa has become a necessity, an integral part of people’s lifestyle.”

Fusfield adds that these days, Steiner spas are particularly interested in mindful massages — those that not only focus on the body, but on the stress that often slows it down. Ayurvedic practices and acupuncture are hugely popular, as are Steiner’s Medi Spas, which offer everything from anti-aging treatments such as injectable Botox to teeth whitening. Currently, the company runs Medi-Spa At Sea on about one-third of the ships to which it provides spa services.

Fusfield’s personal favorite? Bamboo massage. He describes it as the next level of deep tissue and neuromuscular massage, wherein different sized pieces of bamboo are heated and used in lieu of a therapist’s hands, allowing deeper work on specific leg or back muscles. “We always have to keep the creative wheels turning,” he says.
