Porthole Cruise and Travel

Publisher’s Letter

AND THANKS TO YOU, SHARING THAT LOVE IS THE BEST, MOST PRODUCTIVE AND POSITIVE THING I CAN DO AT THIS DIFFICULT POINT IN TIME.

- BY BILL PANOFF

OUR WORLD HAS TRANSFORMED SEEMINGLY OVERNIGHT. Businesses, families, and communities changing the way we interact through virtual platforms and plastic barriers, but one thing remains the same: the strength and heart we find in so many incredible individuals that have stepped up during this time of crisis. On behalf of everyone here at

Porthole Cruise Magazine, thank you for your support.

My heart goes out to those we have lost throughout this pandemic. The virus has affected many lives, but we remain strong, and each do our part in helping prevent the spread while maintaining a positive outlook on the future of travel — which is why in this issue of Porthole Cruise Magazine, this is the only place you will read the word coronavirus.

It is my hope that each story here provides an escape in its own simple way. Maybe that’s inspiring you to go outside of your comfort zone, perhaps by booking a vacation to cooler climates (page 54) or a cruise on a ship overrun by children, with a partner you just met (page 46).

Maybe that’s encouraging you to make the most of your days (meet the man who lives on a cruise ship on page 26) or to simply carpe p.m. (check out the hottest new clubs at sea on page 74).

Or maybe it’s just getting lost in the latest and greatest cruise happenings, from the premiere of Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady (page 30) to the best barbecue joints at sea (page 18).

I’ve always loved the cruising world, and I always will! And thanks to you, sharing that love is the best, most productive and positive thing I can do at this difficult point in time. Thank you for that — I hope I will not let you down.

Until we cruise together again…
