T E AMING UP
Another way cruise lines are meeting the demand for more active experiences is by partnering with specialized tour companies to widen their appeal and reach out to a new audience who might not have thought of river cruising before.
For example, Scenic has partnered with Trek Travel, an active vacation company specializing in luxury cycling vacations, to offer nine Bike & River Cruises this year. Guests on the 7- night sailings will enjoy use of Trek Domaine 5.9 carbon road bikes on 15- to 60- mile explorations with daily route support and experienced bicycling guides.
In addition, AmaWaterways teams up with active travel company, Backroads, to create more than 50 river cruises that combine cruising with hiking, walking, and cycling tours that feature expert trip leaders, custom titanium bikes, support vans, and flexible itineraries with a range of cycling routes ideal for all abilities. And, sailing on AmaWaterways’ vessels, Adventures by Disney river cruises allow families to experience the heart of Europe in a way that is active, immersive, and easy.
Avalon Waterways offers a slate of Active Discovery Cruises, which include guided or selfguided hiking, biking, canoeing, or jogging options every day. And Uniworld has teamed up with luxury cycling tour company Butterfield & Robinson to offer Cycle & Cruise itineraries that include long daily rides on routes that showcase Europe’s spectacular scenery, as well as customized bicycles, detailed maps, support vehicle, and expert bike guides.
