Pépin began writing cookbooks in the 1970s and has starred in several prominent cooking shows on public television. He’s also known for his friendship and collaborat­ion with another culinary icon, Julia Child. Jacques Pépin has served as the personal chef to three French heads of state, including Charles de Gaulle, back in the 1950s. He was awarded the highest honor by the French government and holds the title of Chevalier de l’Ordre National de la Legion d’Honneur. More recently, he’s partnered with his daughter, Claudine, on a cooking series and cookbooks. His most recent celebrated show, Jacques Pépin: Heart & Soul, inspired a companion book, published in 2015.
