Iran’s exports to Russia up by 36%
Iran has considerably increased exports of non-oil commodities to Russia in the first half of 2017, a senior official announced.
Iran’s Commercial Attaché in the Russian Federation Farhad Parand was quoted by Fars News Agency as saying, “Exports from Iran to Russia in the first six months of 2017 increased by 36 percent compared to the figure for the same period last year.”
He said that foreign trade figures show that Iran’s export to Russia has increased from $168 million in the first half of 2016 to $228 million in the corresponding period in 2017.
“What is eye-catching about the growth is the efforts by the Iranian side to strike a reasonable balance in the country’s trade with Russia,” Parand said.
In late July, Iran’s Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaei and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov underlined the need to increase Tehranmoscow trade exchanges.
In a meeting in Moscow, Sanaei and Morgulov explored avenues for bolstering cooperation between Iran and Russia.
The two sides also discussed a range of other issues, including implementation of agreements reached between Tehran and Moscow during President Hassan Rouhani’s visit to Russia in late March.
Morgulov voiced satisfaction with the development of all-out relations between Iran and Russia, and called for implementing the letters of the agreements and defining new economic projects to broaden ties more than before.
Sanaei pointed to the exchange of high-ranking delegations between the two countries in recent months, and said that the heads of states of the two countries are determined to develop relations in all areas.
He also referred to the growth trade ties between Iran and Russia, and hoped to witness a noticeable growth in trade between the two countries till the end of the current year.
