-

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in a meeting on Friday explored avenues for development of all-out ties between the two countries.

Zarif and Mirziyoyev exchanged views on boosting cooperation in the fields of energy, economy, fighting terrorism and science between Tehran and Tashkent, IRNA reported.

The Iranian foreign minister arrived in Samarkand, Uzbekistan’s second largest city, on Thursday afternoon to attend the International Conference on Security and Sustainable Development in Central Asia.

Addressing the event, the Iranian diplomat said in today’s interconnected world, the security of a country depends on the security of the other and the era of “living in ivory towers” has ended.

“Security in the present-day interconnected world is not limited to military dimensions, and is a multifaceted, intertwined and comprehensive issue.

“Today, security is an integrated and correlative issue in which security of one depends on the security of the other.

“The era of unilateral security and living in ivory towers and ensuring security based on military power has come to an end since a long time ago.”

He said nowadays, in order to achieve security, all must rely on “people” as the most important element of a country’s security to attain an endogenous security, and then achieve a sustainable and collective security through a constructive engagement with neighbors.
