Iran, Afghanistan traders discuss expansion of exchanges
A number of traders from Iran and Afghanistan in a meeting in northwestern Afghanistan discussed ways to boost their exchanges.
During the meeting in Islam Qala of Herat Province, 20 Iranian economic activists and a number of Afghan traders reviewed ways for taking serious steps to help improve bilateral trade, Fars News Agency reported.
“One-third of Afghanistan’s needs are supplied by Iran through Dogharoon border point, Taybad,” Governor of Taybad Hossein Sherafati-rad said.
During the meeting, the Iranian traders called for enhancing trade ties with their Afghan counterparts.
In a relevant development in June, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani in a meeting in Astana, Kazakhstan, underlined the need for expanding mutual cooperation in different fields. During the meeting in Kazakhstan’s capital, Zarif and Ghani explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating bilateral ties in both political and economic fields.
Ghani also called on all the governments to join in the fight against the terrorists.
Zarif, for his part, referred to strategic talks in Kabul, saying that working groups were formed to implement the agreements signed earlier between Tehran and Kabul.
Both sides also exchanged views on the ongoing crisis among the Persian Gulf littoral states, urging them to solve their problems through dialogue.
