Macron: JCPOA basis of France-iran cooperation
French President Emmanuel Macron said that the landmark nuclear deal between Iran and P5+1 group is considered as the basis of Paris-tehran cooperation.
Macron made the remarks in a meeting with new Iranian Ambassador in France Abolqassem Delfi at Elysee Palace on Tuesday, IRNA reported.
He also pointed to France’s policy to safeguard and implement the historic nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
The French president stressed that Paris is interested in continuation of “constructive relations” with Iran and expressed satisfaction over cordial relations between France and Iran.
Macron voiced Paris’ willingness to negotiate with Iran on developments in the Middle East region.
The Iranian ambassador said Iran has always emphasized the need for settlement of regional issues through dialogue and is against any foreign intervention.
He referred to the old-age relations between Iran and France and positive developments in relations between the two countries after the implementation of the JCPOA, and stressed on the positive effects of Iran and France’s consultations on the stability in the region.
As one of the signatories of the 2015 nuclear deal, the European country has frequently thrown its support behind the landmark nuclear agreement against Trump’s opposition.
Since the implementation of the deal in 2016, Paris has clinched several economic agreements with Tehran, including agreements on automobile, agriculture, plane and energy.
