5.1-magnitude earthquake injures over 50 in Kermanshah
A 5.1-magnitude earthquake jolted the country’s western province of Kermanshah once again on Saturday, injuring at least 51 people.
The temblor injured 42 people in the town of Sarpol-e Zahab and nine others in Gilan-e Gharb city on Saturday. The quake’s depth was eight kilometers.
Earlier in November, a 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck western Iran, killing more than 620 and injuring over 12,000. Sarpol-e Zahab suffered half of the temblor’s casualties.
Iran is located on major seismic faults and experiences almost a quake per day on average.
A 6.6-magnitude earthquake flattened the historic city of Bam in southern Iranm killing 31,000 people in 2003.
Following the November 12 quake in the province, more than 1600 aftershocks have been registered in Kermanshah.
