Iran Room opens at Yerevan University
A center called Iran Room has been inaugurated at Yerevan State University (YSU) to enhance Iranian studies in Armenia.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Iran’s Ambassador to Armenia Kazem Sajjadi and YSU’S Vice-rector on Scientific Policy and International Cooperation Gegham G. Gevorgyan as well as the Dean of the Faculty of International Relations Gegham Petrosyan, IRNA reported.
In a speech at the event, Petrosyan congratulated Iran on the 39th anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution noting that Iran was the only neighboring country which recognized Armenia in the very early days of its independence and has maintained diplomatic ties with his country.
Iran spared no efforts in supporting the Armenian people and government in difficult conditions, he added.
Peace and stability would not be possible in Southern Caucasus without Iran, he stated.
At the gathering, Sajjadi cited cultural, academic, scientific and economic cooperation as a practical way of promoting relations between the two countries.
Iran Room, he said, will provide a suitable opportunity for Armenian students and professors to develop academic cooperation more than ever.
Senior Iranian officials seek peaceful ties with neighboring countries, he added.
