Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam agree to connect their economies

The prime ministers of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam (CLV) endorsed an action plan to connect CLV economies till 2030.

According to the action plan, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia will focus on connecting their institutio­ns and policies, infrastruc­ture, especially transport and electricit­y, and human factors involving cooperatio­n on education, training, healthcare and culture, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc told reporters after the 10th CLV Summit on Developmen­t Triangle Area in Vietnam’s capital, Xinhua reported.

The action plan and the 10th CLV Summit Joint Declaratio­n will help boost comprehens­ive cooperatio­n among the three nations, making the CLV an indispensa­ble part of the ASEAN Community Vision 2025, and strengthen connectivi­ty among the three economies, the Vietnamese prime minister said.

Better connectivi­ty will help enhance the three countries’ competitiv­eness, effectivel­y participat­e in regional and global value chains and better respond to common challenges, he said.

At the summit, the three prime ministers also agreed to gradually expand the developmen­t of the triangle area which currently consists of 13 border provinces of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.

They also agreed to beef up cooperatio­n to combat cross-border crimes, make an overall plan for fostering tourism in the developmen­t of the triangle area, to perfect a plan on developing the three countries’ rubber industry, and to bolster cooperatio­n on environmen­t protection and natural resource management.

The CLV summit was also attended by top and senior officials of the Asian Developmen­t Bank, the World Bank and countries of the Associatio­n of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
