Iran building geothermal power plant in Ardabil
Iran has located three sites for the construction of geothermal power plants and is building the first such facility in the northwestern province of Ardabil.
According to Fars News Agency, the head of the Renewable Energy Department of Niroo Research Institute, Shahriar Bozorgmehri said on Sunday that the five-mw geothermal power plant under construction in Meshkinshahr was designed several years ago and its turbine is being installed.
He elaborated that Iranian experts have identified three suitable sites, including Meshkinshahr, Damavand and Sistan-balouchestan, for the construction of geothermal power plants.
Iran has in recent years increased efforts to use renewable energies to produce electricity instead of fossil fuel.
In March, Iran and France announced they are cooperating in building and assembling two new solar power plants in Tehran with the capacity of producing 17MW of electricity.
“A 10-MW solar power plant was built in Shamsabad and another seven-mw power plant in Damavand as a result of cooperation between an Iranian company and a French firm,” said the head of Power Distribution Company of Tehran, Reza Teimouri.
He added that the power plants will soon launch operation in ceremonies attended by Iranian officials.
