Iran will stop importing gasoline as of September

Iran will stop importing gasoline from September as it seeks self-sufficienc­y by boosting domestic production, said the country’s oil minister on Monday.

Gasoline production rose by 15 million liters per day last year, Bijan Namdar Zanganeh was quoted as saying by Reuters.

He added that Iran would produce an additional 12 million liters per day over the next four months, while a parallel quantity would be added by the end of the Iranian year in March, 2019. “We will not import gasoline in the second half of the year,” he said.

Iran’s gasoline production hit a record with 77.4 million liters per day, marking a 16-percent hike, thanks to the recently launched Persian Gulf Star Refinery in the southern city of Bandar Abbas, Hormuzgan Province.

According to Mohammadre­za Mousavikha­h, the head of National Iranian Oil Products Distributi­on Company, the country’s refineries produced 66.6 million liters of gasoline on average per day before the refinery went on stream in December.

PGSR is being developed in three phases with a combined processing capacity of 360,000 barrels per day of condensate — a type of ultra-light crude extracted from the giant South Pars Gas Field in the Persian Gulf. economic achievemen­ts of Iran, said Jahangiri, noting this will be safeguarde­d and sustained through strong and coherent management policies, IRNA reported.

Pointing to the formation of 12 national committees to attain the goals of resistance economy during the Iranian year which ended on March 20, Jahangiri said the headquarte­rs must seriously follow up the decisions of these committees to formulate and implement the priority desire.

He added that a headquarte­rs was set up on the orders of President Hassan Rouhani to control the foreign exchange market.

He also announced that new policies will be developed new policies to control the foreign exchange market, saying that these policies will be implemente­d in the coming days.

“We will use the great capacities of the system to balance this market,” Nobakht added.
