Transit revenues up by 20%

-

Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization (TPO) said that transit revenues amounted to $2.817 billion in the 11 months from March 20, 2017-Feb. 20, 2018, which showed an increase of 19.9 percent year-on-year, Trend News Agency reported.

Earlier, Mohsen Rahimi, head of the TPO transit desk, said that the main reason for the rise in transit revenues was surging fuel transit from Iraq’s Kurdish region to Iran’s southern port of Imam Khomeini. Fuel transit, as well as transit of cargos to Afghanistan has led to an increase in the loading/offloading of oil products in Iranian ports as well as in marine transit, he pointed out.

Revenues from road transit had the highest share (77 percent), followed by air transportation (12.9 percent), marine and rail transit. Meanwhile, railway transit registered the highest revenue growth among the modes of transportation. Incomes from railway transit increased by 44.9 percent year-on-year and stood at $129 million.
