Qassemi: People in region will not forget Saudis’ role in creating extremism
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi said that nations in the region will not forget the Saudi regime’s role in creating extremism, advising the Al Saud regime to learn from the fate of its former ally, Saddam Hussein.
The official comments were in reaction to the recent antiiran allegations made by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Foreign Minister Adel al-jubeir during a visit to France, IRNA reported.
“Those who have registered their names and their countries on the list of perpetrators and criminals in the region and have been categorized as criminal and intruder dictators, such as Saddam, should know that they cannot ignore the facts by making unfounded allegations against Iran,” said Qassemi.
“Regional nations will not forget Saudi Arabia’s role in generating, spreading and arming extremists and terrorists that in different eras and under various titles like Al-qaeda and Daesh have committed humanitarian catastrophes in some neighboring countries, region and the world,” he said.
“If for any reason, the Saudi regime today needs to change its face and to camouflage its dark background and just because of the emergency rules has to spend billions of dollars to buy support of some trans-regional countries, it should take a look at Saddam Hussein’s fate,” Qassemi noted.
However, he said the indispensable fate of the Saudi regime will not change by taking such an approach, playing the blame game, buying support and security and sponsoring terrorist groups.
The spokesman also denounced Al Saud’s military aggression against Yemen and its push for closer ties with the Zionist regime of Israel, stressing that the policy of “purchasing security” from abroad or supporting terrorism are doomed to failure.
“The current Saudi rulers, together with the Zionist regime, have become the symbol of aggression and crime in the Middle East,” he noted.
The Iranian spokesman also recommended the French officials to keep in mind the fate of former dictators in the region when negotiating with the Saudi rulers.
At the end of his three-day visit to France, Prince bin Salman and France’s president agreed on the need to curb what they called Iranian expansionism.
The Saudi crown prince also discussed the possibility of taking part in an attack on Syria during a joint press conference with Macron.
