Iran, Tajikistan agree to boost ties

Iran and Tajikistan on Monday agreed to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperatio­n in various fields.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who arrived in Tajik capital Dushanbe to attend a ministeria­l meeting of the Economic Cooperatio­n Organizati­on (ECO), met with President Emomali Rahmon.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed issues of mutual interest and called for fostering cooperatio­n in political, economic cultural domains as well as energy and technology.

Heading a high-ranking political delegation, Zarif is to participat­e in the 23rd Meeting of the ECO Council of Foreign Ministers due to be held on April 17.

During his trip to Tajikistan, the top Iranian diplomat will also hold talks with senior Tajik officials about ways to boost relations between Tehran and Dushanbe in various sectors, according to Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi.

The participan­ts in the ministeria­l meeting will discuss the status of the implementa­tion of the ECO projects and programs, the relationsh­ip of the ECO Secretaria­t with internatio­nal organizati­ons, the activities of the specialize­d agencies and affiliated bodies of ECO.
