First phase of gas supply to Chabahar Power Plant complete by May

-

The first phase of gas supply to Chabahar Power Plant will be complete by late May delivering a million cubic meters per day of natural gas to the facility, said an official at National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC).

Saeid Momeni, who is the director of NIGC’S Gas Distribution Department, told Shana that the company has signed a deal with the developer of the project based on which gas supply to the plant will begin by late May.

He added that gas supply project to Chabahar Power Plant is defined in two phases. In the first phase, one million cubic meters of natural gas per day will be supplied to the plant while in the second phase this figure will be raised to two million cubic meters.

The main objective of supplying gas to the southeastern region of Sistan-baluchestan Province and meeting the gas demands of Chabahar Power Plant, is to provide favorable conditions for exporting gas to Oman, he noted.

In 2013, Iran and Oman signed a memorandum of understanding on exporting natural gas via pipeline to Oman.

Based on the MOU, Iran will export gas to Oman to produce 1.5 million tons of LNG annually.

The gas transfer capacity of the pipeline will be 1.5 billion cubic feet per day. A part of the capacity will be used for LNG production and the remaining gas will be used for futures markets in Persian Gulf states.
