Tehran, Jakarta eye expansion of economic cooperatio­n

Iran’s trade with Indonesia reached $680 million in the 11 months from March 21, 2017 to February 22, 2018, showing a considerab­le increase from $380 million for the same period a year earlier, said Iran’s ambassador to Indonesia.

Valiollah Mohammadi Nasrabadi further said that Iran exported goods worth $500 million to Indonesia during the 11-month period, reported Mehr News Agency.

Indonesia ranks tenth among Iran’s export destinatio­ns and giant steps have been taken to expand business ties between the two countries despite banking problems, the ambassador pointed out.

He pointed to the effective steps taken in the field of nanotechno­logy particular­ly in the drug, medicine and textile sectors and said, “We hope that Tehran-jakarta cooperatio­n will expand in the current year.”

Moreover, universiti­es and academic centers of the two countries have inked a separate memorandum of understand­ing (MOU) to cooperate in scientific and research projects, he maintained.

Mohammadi Nasrabadi added that Indonesia is interested in investing in the developmen­t of two oilfields in Iran.

The two countries took effective steps in the year to March 20 to broaden cooperatio­n in various fields and this trend will also be pursued in the current year, the ambassador concluded.
