Pakistan, Iran, Turkey to launch transit corridor
A transit line and freight corridor will be launched between Iran, Pakistan and Turkey said Iran’s minister of roads and urban development.
Abbas Akhoundi told Mehr News Agency in the Pakistani city of Lahore that President Hassan Rouhani had called for the development of all-out ties with neighboring countries.
Pointing to relations and cooperation between Iran and Pakistan in various fields, he added that since the two countries have fair relations in the fields of land, air, sea and rail transportation, officials of the two countries are interested in expanding and developing ties in these fields.
He added that given the coordination in this respect, Iran, Pakistan and Turkey decided to launch a trilateral transit line.
“Pakistan is home to good airports in the cities of Lahore, Quetta and Islamabad and there is plenty of capacity and potential for visits by Pakistani religious and cultural tourists to the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
Moreover, he said that the two sides had agreed to resume flights between Iran and Pakistan to permit Pakistani passengers to visit Chabahar, Zahedan, Iranshahr and Zabol.
He referred to the restoration of the railway line between the two countries and said the two sides agreed to renovate the railway line linking Zahedan and Quetta as well as to improve the quality of railroad to expand transit of goods.
