Iran condemns Israel’s attack on Syria

-

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi strongly condemned a recent Israeli attack on Syria as a blatant violation of the Arab country’s sovereignty.

The frequent attacks by the Israeli regime on Syrian soil is an act of aggression that reveals the hegemonic nature of the regime which cannot see peace, stability and security in the region, Qassemi said in a Friday statement, IRNA reported.

Israel’s frequent attacks on Syria under fabricated and baseless excuses is a breach of the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and in defiance of all international laws and regulations, the spokesman said.

The silence of other countries and international organizations on the issue and behavior of the Israeli regime means giving a green light to it and encouraging this regime to continue its aggressive moves, Qassemi said.

The statement came after Israel attacked dozens of targets inside Syria in what the Tel Aviv regime claimed was its most extensive strike against the Arab country in decades.

Israeli officials said the assault early on Thursday was a response to a barrage of 20 rockets that were fired from Syria at Israeli military outposts in the occupied Golan Heights hours earlier. It blamed the rocket fire on Iran.

The regime’s attacks against Syrian military positions have become more frequent over the past months, amid Syrian forces’ major victories over terrorist groups across the country.

Qassemi said the terror groups were in fact “proxies” waging war on behalf of the US, Israel and their regional allies, Press TV reported.

“Today, the main supporters of these groups are directly attacking and invading Syrian territories in an attempt to avenge the many failures of their self-created terrorists and tip the scales in their favor,” he asserted.

The Syrian Army command said it has managed to destroy the biggest part of a “successive wave” of Israeli rockets fired at military bases in the Arab country.

Damascus says Israel and its Western and regional allies are aiding terrorist groups operating inside the Arab country, while the Tel Aviv regime’s military carries out sporadic strikes against Syrian government forces.

The Israeli regime has even set up field hospitals to treat wounded militants evacuated from Syria.
