Patients at care home went two months without bath or shower

-

Patients at a care home in Liverpool didn’t have a bath or shower for nearly two months, the health watchdog said.

Woolton Manor Care Home remains in special measures following a damning report by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The home in Allerton road showed serious failings in every single area and was rated ‘inadequate for the third time in a row, Metro reported.

Inspectors said two patients had gone seven weeks without a bath or shower, while another went six without and two others hadn’t had one for five weeks.

They were also told that one patient had gone for two months without a shower, and one person said they only had a bath or shower once a week.

The February inspection found the ‘smelt strongly of urine’ and patients were at ‘risk of unsafe and inappropriate care’.

No action had been taken to rectify the problems that had been found during the previous CQC inspection, the report said.

“We found that the provider had not taken appropriate action to address our concerns and all of the breaches we identified previously remained,” it said.

“This meant people who lived at the home continued to be placed at serious risk. The rating for the service has not changed. The service remains inadequate and in special measures.”

Patients had no access to ‘social or recreational activities’ and inspectors were told ‘there was nothing to do at the home’.
