South Pars Phase 14 to go on stream in winter

-

South Pars Gas Field’s Phase 14, with a production capacity of one million cubic meters per day, will go on stream by March 2019, said the CEO of Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company on Wednesday.

Qassem Rahmani added that Phase 14 of South Pars Gas Field development project includes four platforms and two gas transfer lines, Mehr News Agency reported.

He noted that all stages of designing and engineering, drilling wells as well as building and installing the platforms were carried out by Iranian experts and domestic companies.

Describing Phase 14 as one of the biggest development phases of South Pars Gas Field, which Iran shares with Qatar in the Persian Gulf, he added, “The phase will operate with a capacity of 500,000 cubic meters per day in the first six months, and its production capacity will eventually increase to one million cubic meters.”

Rahmani said the US withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal will have no adverse impact on the development of the country’s gas fields, noting, “We are self-sufficient in gas field development, and currently have no particular need for foreign products.”

He added that, “Ongoing projects face no problems and the return of sanctions will not hinder the implementation of projects by Iranian companies.”

He said Iran is self-sufficient in producing and installing wellhead equipment, as well as in engineering and designing platforms and transfer lines.

The huge South Pars Gas Field, which Iran shares with Qatar in the Persian Gulf, covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, of which 3,700 square kilometers lie in Iran’s territorial waters. The remaining 6,000 square kilometers, called North Dome, are situated in Qatar’s territorial waters.

The field is estimated to contain a significant amount of natural gas, accounting for about eight percent of the world’s reserves, and approximately 18 billion barrels of condensate.
