Top official: Some states strengthening terrorism by trusting US
Those countries deeming it possible to ensure their internal security and regional stability by trusting the US are, in practice, strengthening terrorism, said the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC).
Speaking in a meeting with Faleh Fayyaz, the National Security advisor of the Iraqi government on Monday, Ali Shamkhani congratulated the Iraqi government and people on their successful holding of the parliamentary election in May and achievement to guarantee the security of the poll.
He stressed that the ground has been prepared for a leap forward in trade and economic relations between Tehran and Baghdad as two strategic partners, thanks to the incessant achievements of the Iraqi army and Popular Mobilization Units in their operations to fight Takfiri terrorists as well as the significant improvement of the country’s security condition.
Shamkhani said the US and Zionist regime, in cooperation with some regional states, play a very significant role in plotting and leading an important part of the regional crises, adding however, the people of Iraq proved that true security is not purchasable and that it is possible to “overcome the biggest security threats” by relying on themselves and their religious authorities, instead of trusting foreign powers.
Regretting the double-standard and contradictory behavior displayed by some regional countries who claim to be the leaders of the Muslim World, he noted that, on the contrary, these states have become a milk cow for the US and Israel’s strategic partners.
Shamkhani added despite their substantial and unprecedented budget deficit and the massive drop in their forex reserves, these countries’ unexperienced and delusional rulers are doing their best to cover up and deny their increasing economic, security and social problems by adopting ridiculous approaches.
“The White House leaders do not even hesitate to shamelessly attack Iraqi and Syrian armed forces in order to support terrorism,” he said.
The senior Iranian official emphasized that the Islamic Republic has always stood by the Iraqi people and said Tehran’s firm stance is based on supporting the Iraqis’ demands in the path of the war-ravaged country’s development, particularly after the defeat of terrorism.
Nearly a dozen members of the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group were killed after Iraqi security forces, supported by progovernment fighters from Popular Mobilization Units, foiled their attacks in the country’s northern oil-rich province of Kirkuk.
Iraqi Joint Operations Command (JOC) spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Rasool said in May a joint force from Hawija police and voluntary fighters, better known by the Arabic word Hashd alsha’abi, repelled terrorist attacks on the villages of Gharib and Hanaf, south of the provincial capital city of Kirkuk, killing 11 extremists in the process, Arabiclanguage al-taghier television network reported.
On December 9, 2017, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-abadi declared the end of military operations against Daesh in the Arab country. Seven months later, Abadi formally declared victory over Daesh extremists in Mosul, which served as the terrorists’ main urban stronghold in the conflict-ridden Arab country.
In the run-up to Mosul’s liberation, Iraqi army soldiers and volunteer Hashd alsha’abi fighters had made sweeping gains against Daesh.
The Iraqi forces took control of eastern Mosul in January 2017 after 100 days of fighting, and launched the battle in the west on February 19 last year.
Daesh began a terror campaign in Iraq in 2014, overrunning vast swathes in lightning attacks.
