Iran vice president holds talks with Malaysian PM

Iran’s Vice President for Women’s Affairs Massoumeh Ebtekar met with Malaysia’s new Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad.

Both officials discussed various issues, including regional and internatio­nal problems, during the meeting held in Kuala Lumpur on Monday, IRNA reported.

Ebtekar delivered the message of Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani to the Malaysian prime minister and congratula­ted him on his victory in the recent elections. The Pakatan Harapan bloc led by Mahathir Mohamad won a simple majority in parliament in May elections. Iranian president had an official visit to Malaysia in 2016. During the meeting, the Malaysian prime minister emphasized the importance of bilateral cooperatio­n between the two countries.

Ebtekar also held talks with Malaysia’s Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah.

Iran is Malaysia’s fourth largest trading partner in the West Asia region. Both countries have been enjoying bilateral political-economic ties since 1966.
