Prevent trapped wind pain with ginger tea

“When you’re bloated, it’s important to focus on foods that are easy to digest as well as hydrating,” said Petrucci.

“Certain foods and herbs can actually help de-bloat your belly quick. Items that you most likely already have in your kitchen or are super easy to find in any grocery store.

“Ginger has a long history of being used as a digestive aid. The phenolic compounds in ginger stimulate the production of digestive enzymes.

“Ginger also reduces inflammati­on and muscular tension within the gastrointe­stinal tract. This helps to release trapped gas as well as relieve constipati­on.

“Ginger tea is a great way to harness the power of ginger. The stronger the better. You can also add a knob of fresh ginger to your smoothie.”

Adding more ginger to your diet could also lower cholestero­l levels, and therefore reduce your heart disease risk, scientists have claimed.

It could even lower blood sugar levels by as much as 12 percent, they added.

If ginger’s flavor isn’t for you, try drinking aloe vera juice instead. It’s also an anti-inflammato­ry with aids digestion.

You could lower your risk of stomach bloating by cutting back on the amount of fizzy drinks in your diet, said the NHS.

Standing up to eat and talking with your mouth full of food will increase your chances of feeling bloated.

Most people feel bloated after a big weekend, or especially over the festive season.

Beans, onions, broccoli and cabbage are all guilty of instigatin­g bloating pain, the NHS added.

Speak to a doctor if your bloated stomach won’t go away — it could be a sign of something more serious.
