Cheney biopic ‘Vice’ tops Golden Globes nominations
The 2019 Golden Globes nominations were announced, and ‘Vice’ leads the film nominees with six, followed by ‘The Favorite,’ ‘Green Book’ and ‘A Star Is Born,’ with five apiece.
On the TV side, ‘The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story’ leads with a total of four Golden Globes nods, Hollywood Reporter wrote.
‘Vice’ topped all contenders in the nominations including best picture, comedy and best actor nominations for Christian Bale’s nearly unrecognizable performance as the former vice president. It also earned nominations for Amy Adams’ Lynne Cheney, Sam Rockwell’s George W. Bush and for the screenplay and direction by Mckay, the veteran comedy filmmaker who once skewered politicians as a ‘Saturday Night Live’ writer.
The Golden Globes nominations announcement took place one month before the awards ceremony Jan. 6.
Terry Crews, Danai Gurira, Leslie Mann and Christian Slater announced the 2019 Golden Globes nominees live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Also on hand were Isan Elba, Golden Globe Ambassador Meher Tatna, Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) president; and Barry Adelman, executive producer and executive VP television at Dick Clark Productions.
Also Tatna revealed a new award for the 2019 ceremony, a TV equivalent of the Cecil B. Demille Award that the HFPA hands out for film. It will honor “TV’S biggest names and brightest talents,” she said, noting that recipients will be selected based on their accomplishments and the impact and influence of their career. Noting that it is the first special achievement award to be created by the HFPA since the Demille honor was first given in 1952, Tatna added that the honoree will be revealed in the coming days.
