Iranian director Zamani to serve in Russian festival jury

Iranian filmmaker Zohreh Zamani is set to serve as a juror at the 15th Kazan Muslim Film Festival to be held in Tatarstan, Russia from April 24-30.

Zamani, was the first Muslim woman to join the panel of jury of Religion Today Film Festival in 2010 in Italy, as well as the 2012 Dhaka Internatio­nal Film Festival, ifilmtv.com reported.

Two years later, she was selected to head the panel of jury for the short films section of Dhaka Film Festival, in which 216 flicks were screened, and hosted more than a hundred internatio­nal figures.

The director started her career in 2000 with the Iranian Youth Cinema Society in the northern Iranian port city of Anzali, Gilan Province.

Zamani has so far produced 10 movies, mostly acclaimed at domestic and internatio­nal film festivals.

The 2019 edition of Kazan Muslim Film Festival received film submission­s from various countries, including Azerbaijan, Afghanista­n, Armenia, Bangladesh, Bosnia-herzegovin­a, China, Croatia, France, Germany, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania, Macedonia, Malaysia, Morocco, Mozambique, Nepal, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Syria, Tajikistan, Taiwan, Turkey, the UK, the US, Uzbekistan and Yemen.

The program of the festival focuses on Russian and internatio­nal films promoting the ideas of peace building, intercultu­ral dialogue and tolerance regardless their religious affiliatio­ns.

The concept of the festival is reflected in its official motto “Through the dialogue of cultures to the culture of dialogue”.
