Envoy voices Iran’s readiness to create customs green corridor with Russia
Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali expressed Tehran’s preparedness for forming a customs Green Corridor with Russia in the virus conditions as many activities have come to a standstill globally.
Jalali made the remarks via a videoconference with Russian officials at Federal Customs Service including Russia’s Deputy Head of Customs Vladimir Vladimirovich Ivin, reported Fars News Agency.
To have multilateral cooperation with Eurasian Economic Union in line with President Vladimir Putin’s initiative to create the customs Green Corridor in the coronavirus and post-coronavirus periods is on the agenda of developing economic ties, he said. The two sides exchanged views on increasing customs cooperation in a bid to remove problems for Iranian truck drivers.
In April, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said his country welcomes the Russian Federation’s initiative to create a Green Corridor.
“Donald Trump continues to resist international demands to lift Iran’s sanctions to counter the coronavirus infection,” Zarif tweeted on April 8. “Coronavirus can spread to neighboring countries,” he said. Iran’s top diplomat noted, “Iran welcomes the Russian idea of creating a Green Corridor instead of an economic war and sanctions.”
“Different countries, in order to control the situation with the coronavirus, close their geographical borders, but open them to provide assistance,” he said regarding the Russian initiative.
