Museums in Tehran closed again amid fears of surge in COVID-19
The museums in Iran’s capital Tehran were closed for the second time as of July 14 for one week, said the director general of the Museums and Mobile Historical Assets.
He added, “Of course, the museum staff must be present at work during this period, but it is not possible for visitors to visit the capital’s museums.”
Previously, Iran’s museums experienced closure for three months, ending May 24, and now the new restrictions were introduced.
Governor of Tehran Province Anushiravan Mohseni-bandpay said the weeklong restrictions were imposed in coordination with the National Headquarters for Managing and Fighting the Coronavirus and would result in the closure of certain businesses and activities.
According to the new decision, all universities, schools, boarding schools, seminaries, technical and vocational schools, language teaching and other educational institutes, libraries, theaters, museums, garden museums, ceremony halls, barbershops, beauty salons, and mosques will be closed for one week.
The forced closures also apply to gymnasiums, cafeterias, coffee shops, teahouses, zoos, amusement parks, water parks, indoor swimming pools, and fitness centers.
The provincial governor also declared a ban on all social, cultural and religious gatherings as well as conferences in order to deal with the new wave of coronavirus in Tehran Province.
