Jalal Al-e Ahmad Literary Award nominees announced

The 13th edition of the Jalal Al-e Ahmad Literary Award, Iran’s greatest literary prize, announced its nominees in the Literary Criticism section on Wednesday.

According to an IRNA, five books were listed as the finalists of this section.

‘The Myth of Love in Iranian Culture,’ by Bahman Namvar-motlaq, ‘A Review of the History of the Body in Literature,’ by Mehdi Zarqani, ‘The Epic of the Catastroph­e,’ compiled by Milad Ja’farpour, ‘Drama Narrative,’ by Parastou Mohebbi.

Ebrahim-mohammad Hassanbeig­i, Hamid Hessam, Mohammadre­za Sharafi-khabushan, Mostafa Jamshidi, Ali Changizi, Abolfazl Horri, Morteza Sarhangi, Maryam Moshref and Mohammadre­za Bayrami are the members of the selecting committee for the prize.

The books are categorize­d into four sections, novels, documents, literary criticism and short stories.

The organizers of the 13th edition of the literary awards announced that it had received about 2000 titles of books.

This year, books written on the 1980-1988 Iran-iraq war, which is known as the Sacred Defense in Iran, will be reviewed to honor the top works of the past four decades.

“Novels, short stories, reviews and documents produced over the past 40 years on the Sacred Defense will be selected by a number of journalist­s and representa­tives of the media active in the literature arena,” said the director of the awards Behrouz Jalali.

‘Teahouse Painting,’ the memoirs of Kazem Darabi, an Iranian suspect in the 1992 Mykonos Restaurant assassinat­ions case in Berlin, won the Jalal Al-e Ahmad Literary Award during the 12th edition last year.
