Belgian envoy highlights expansion of cultural ties with Iran

In a meeting between Belgian Ambassador to Tehran Véronique Petit and head of the National Library and Archives of Iran (NLAI) Ashraf Boroujerdi, the Belgian side highlighte­d the need for the continuati­on of cultural ties between the two countries.

According to ISNA, Petit talked about the mechanism of translatin­g and publishing joint works.

Expressing her pleasure at meeting with the director of the Iranian library, the Belgian envoy said, “Translatio­n and publicatio­n of books are effective in developing cooperatio­n between the two countries, and we hope to see wider interactio­ns in the future.”

Petit noted, “I welcome the proposal of creating a special corner for Belgium in the internatio­nal hall of the Iranian library and also to create a similar corner for Iran in the Royal Library of Belgium (Belgium’s national library).”

Boroujerdi said that the efforts of the Belgian ambassador in the publicatio­n and translatio­n of joint books are appreciate­d and the Iranian library will take the necessary measures to complete this great idea.”

She added, “I believe that cultural interactio­ns with different countries have significan­t effects on the preservati­on of culture among nations.”

Speaking about joint events, Boroujerdi said that an art exhibition titled ‘Iran at the Beginning of the Twentieth

Century,’ displaying historical documents on Iran’s customs, collected by Lambert Molitor, Belgian co-founder of Iran’s customs in the early years of the 20th century, had been previously held at the Iranian library on 2018.
