Iran’s ‘Crab’ to be screened at Germany’s Dresden animation festival

-

The Iranian animation, ‘Crab,’ directed by Shiva Sadeq Asadi, is invited by Germany to take part in the 33rd Filmfest Dresden.

This year the event opened on July 13 and will run through July 18, Mehr News Agency reported.

The 11-minute film, which is produced by Iran’s Institute for Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults, tells the story of a shy schoolboy who is interested in performing in a play with his school’s theater troupe. But the only part offered to him is to play the role of a crab, ifilmtv.com wrote.

The film has already taken part in a number of global events, including the Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF) in Canada, the Countryside Animafest Cyprus Film Festival, the Shanghai International Film Festival in China, the Fest Anča International Animation Festival, the Animatricks International Animation Festival in Finland, and the Hiroshima International Animation Festival in Japan.

Filmfest Dresden was founded in 1989. The festival focuses on a short film in all its facets, and has become one of the most important festivals of its kind throughout Germany. The festival is also one of the best endowed short film festivals in Europe, with prizes and awards worth €67,000.

Since its inception as a forum for banned or rarely screened feature films, Filmfest Dresden has developed into a short film festival with a permanent position on the international circuit.

The festival’s International Competition has been held since 1992, which was followed in 1998 by the establishment of a National Competition for German productions. Since 2004, the Saxon State Ministry for Science and the Fine Arts Promotion Prize, worth €20,000, has been awarded in this section.
