Man (31) still in a critical state after being shot in head

- BY CATE McCURRY

A FATHER-OF-ONE is still fighting for his life in hospital after he was shot in the head.

Named locally as Ty McGuire, the 31-year-old was at his home in Craigavon when a gunman fired at least 20 shots through a living room window.

Mr McGuire, who is originally from England, was rushed to the Royal Victoria Hospital where he remained in a critical condition last night.

Police said that an automatic rifle was used in the attack and that at least one of the bullets wounded him in the head.

The attack happened at a house in Carrigart Crescent at around 1.45am on Monday.

No one else was in the house at the time.

The victim has been living in the Craigavon area but is originally from Tilbury in Essex. Police said that the shooting was “orchestrated and carefully planned”. They are investigating a link to a silver Skoda Octavia which had been stolen in Dublin in December last year.

The car, which was bearing false number plates, was discovered burnt out about a mile away from the house in the New Line area of Lurgan.

Detective Inspector Stephen Harvey appealed for information: “We are working to establish a motive for the attack and anyone with information about the incident should contact police in Lurgan.”
