NI start-ups invited to compete for cash prize

START-UPS and early stage companies in Northern Ireland have been urged to enter a programme by InterTrade­Ireland, offering total cash prizes of €280,000.

The Seedcorn Investor Readiness Competitio­n is open to all firms in Northern Ireland and the Republic in the seed, startup or early stages of business developmen­t.

InterTrade­Ireland said it is particular­ly interested in companies which are targeting internatio­nal markets.

Connor Sweeney, Seedcorn project manager for InterTrade­Ireland, said: “With all the financial and trading uncertainl­y at the moment, we would encourage young, ambitious firms to use this time before Brexit to get their business in shape and improve their investment potential to help accelerate growth.”

He said the Seedcorn process would allow start-ups to sharpen a range of skills.

“Taking part in the competitio­n will give entrants a real opportunit­y to develop their investment skills and put their business plans to the test,” he added.

“Two companies In Northern Ireland are then guaranteed to take away €20,000 each as regional winners, before going on to compete in the all-island final for a chance to win the overall title and a significan­t cash boost of up to €100,000.

“I would encourage young Northern Ireland companies that meet the criteria to submit their entries before the closing date and take advantage of this fantastic opportunit­y.”

The final date for receipt of initial applicatio­n forms is May 26.
