‘It’s great being in PJs cuddled on the couch with Libby’

-

Actress Kerri Quinn (34) lives in Belfast with her daughter Libby (5) and parents Cathy (56) and Gerard (59). She’s currently playing the lead role in Madame Geneva at the Lyric Theatre in Belfast. She says:

Iam happiest at home, cuddled up on the couch in my jammies with my daughter Libby. There will be something good on TV and it’s all about me and her, mummy and daughter time.

Being with my daughter is when I’m truly happy. She’s the best thing that ever happened to me and she’s really good company.

She’s at that age were her conversations are becoming really interesting and funny. She’s obsessed with the film Titanic and she asked me the other day if I was in love with Jack as well? She was basically admitting that she was in love with Leonardo DiCaprio. She’s only five. I’ll be happy to see how she grows and changes in the future.

With regards to my job, what makes me happy is the challenge of acting. I’m a big believer that if something terrifies you, you should face it head on.

Working with new people and making new relationships also makes me happy. I’ve just got a new London-based agent and the prospect of a bright future is a great feeling.

I was happiest on stage playing the lead in Educating Rita, which was set in Belfast rather than Liverpool. It sold out at the Lyric Theatre last year, so we brought it back for a tour.

As a young girl, I enjoyed performing in an amateur production of West Side Story with the Ulster Operatic Society. Playing Anita was my first really happy moment on stage — the time I realised that I wanted to act.

Now that I’m in my 30s my partying hard days are over, although it’s nice to have a night out now and again. And that would involve getting dressed up and going out to an Indian restaurant for a meal and bottle of wine with friends.

I have an older sister, Roisin (36) and younger brother, Gerard (24), and we’re very close.

I live with my mum and dad, Cathy and Gerard in north Belfast, so I’m with them every day, but Sunday nights are when I’m most content just to be at home.

We’ll have a nice dinner, a few bottles of wine and play YouTube Roulette, with everyone choosing a song. And, if I’m alone, there is nothing better than having a nice bath and a pizza. It’s about simplicity for me.

I’m not materialistic; I don’t live an expensive lifestyle. When I finish a big production, I tell myself that I can’t wait to kick back and do absolutely nothing.”
