Care home for elderly planned at £100m King’s Hall hub

A NEW care home for the elderly as part of a £100m healthcare facility at the former King’s Hall site in south Belfast is one step closer after fresh plans were submitted.

The redevelopment — the largest of its kind in Northern Ireland — will be able to treat 40,000 patients as part of a huge plan to relocate GP services in south Belfast.

The huge 16-acre site, which will include a care home, hotel and leisure areas, is aiming to be a “one-stop shop” for healthcare.

Now, as part of the plans, Abbeyfield will operate a care home facility at the site.

The scheme will include 32 apartments, made up of one and two bedrooms, designed “specifically for the elderly, to ensure the comfort and wellbeing of every resident can be met to exacting standards”, the developers have said.

Benmore Healthcare Developments is the overall company responsible for delivering the site.

It’s headed by chief executive David Burrows, and includes former Health and Social Care Board chief executive John Compton, who is a non-executive director.

Abbeyfield chief executive Ian Elliott said: “We are really excited about our development on the former King’s Hall site.

“Abbeyfield has been providing accommodation and support services for over 60 years in Belfast and we know and understand what elderly people want and need to maintain the quality of life required to live their lives well as they get older.

“This development will allow us to provide new, purpose-built accommodation for elderly residents requiring a home away from home with the security of knowing there is support and care if and when required.”

The scheme is being designed by Hall Black Douglas.
