Gardai arrest second man as final attacker identified
IRISH police have arrested a second man in connection with the London Bridge terror outrage.
A man aged in his 30s was detained in Wexford at around 5pm yesterday as part of ongoing investigations into Irish links to the atrocity.
The suspect is being questioned about documentation connected to Rachid Redouane, one of the three killers behind the weekend attack.
Redouane married British woman Charisse Ann O’Leary in the Republic in November 2012 and had an address in Rathmines, Dublin.
A file is being prepared on another man arrested and later released without charge over the discovery in Limerick of identity documents in Redouane’s name.
One of the London attackers, Khuram Shazad Butt (27), a Pakistan-born British citizen, was known to police and MI5.
He is alleged to have been an associate of jailed hate preacher Anjem Choudary.
The third London attacker has been named as Youssef Zaghba (22), an Italian national of Moroccan descent, who was living in east London. According to his mother, he became radicalised online.
Meanwhile, specially trained officers from the PSNI have been involved in providing help to police colleagues dealing with the recent terrorist attacks in England.
Ten officers from the PSNI’s Casualty Bureau are supporting the Met by working on a dedicated helpline and dealing with the information flow to and from officers to worried relatives and friends.
Elsewhere, an assailant wielding a hammer and crying “This is for Syria” has been shot and wounded by police outside Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris.
