US doughnut chain Krispy Kreme looks to open first store in Northern Ireland
US doughnut giant Krispy Kreme looks set to open up its first store in Northern Ireland.
The well-known coffee and doughnut brand is now seeking staff here, including a shift leader and ‘team member’ role.
And while it hasn’t revealed the location, it’s advertising the new posts for the North Down area.
A spokeswoman said: “We are currently actively scouting a number of locations to open our first Irish store.
“Although nothing is confirmed at this stage, we’re very excited to spread the joy of Krispy Kreme across the Irish sea in the near future — so watch this space.”
The firm has a series of stores across the UK, and is also available in supermarkets, such as Tesco. The company serves up a range of doughnuts, including the original glazed, chocolate custard and strawberries and cream.
Earlier this year, the owner of Krispy Kreme and Kenco coffee, JAB Holdings, announced it was to take control of US bakery and sandwich chain Panera Bread, in a deal worth $7.5bn (£6bn). Krispy Kreme is the latest US chain to eye up Northern Ireland.
Burger chain Five Guys, the fastest growing restaurant business in the US, arrived at Victoria Square in Belfast in 2015.
Meanwhile, low-cost bakery Greggs is adding its 10th Northern Ireland store in Newry.
In 2015, the Belfast Telegraph revealed the bakery giant was eyeing as many as 50 locations across Northern Ireland, with around 10 in Belfast alone.
It opened its first store at the Applegreen service station between Glengormley and Templepatrick.
