Fury over salaries for senior staff at NI university
UU pay packets top Oxford and Cambridge
ULSTER University’s senior managers are the third highest paid in the UK — earning more than their counterparts at Oxford and Cambridge.
UU hands over an average of £89,414 each to managers, directors and senior officials, prompting the University and College Union, which represents academic staff, to say senior colleagues “should be ashamed of themselves”.
MISS Northern Ireland demonstrated she has brains as well as beauty as she graduated from Ulster University.
Beauty queen Anna Henry graduated with a 2:1 in Energy Renewable Engineering.
“That’s another thing ticked off the list,” said the 22-year-old on achieving her degree.
“Graduation was a lovely day, long but lovely. It was a busy day with getting ready, the ceremony and then of course getting lots of photographs taken.”
After a hectic past few months — between Miss NI duties and her final year of university — the stunning brunette said it was wonderful to see and catch up with family and friends.
“After the ceremony my family and I went for a nice dinner and a few drinks, it was great to just chill with them. Then I think I was in my bed and sleeping for half past ten,” she laughed.
Anna admitted there were a few challenging moments.
“I had my final uni exam only two days after winning Miss NI so, although I was over the moon, I had to keep myself organised,” she said.
“I had my dissertation to complete and exam revision along with going for dress fittings and the Miss NI bootcamps.”
While graduating for a degree in the male-dominated world of engineering, Anna faced a lot of stereotypical comments.
“Lots of people were questioning how can I be studying engineering and be a pageant girl? A lot of people have different opinions on that. But I want to encourage and support girls and state that you can have a degree and also be involved in beauty pageants,” she said.
The reigning Miss Northern Ireland said it’s all about being happy and having a balance.
“I have two sides, I love my modelling but I’m also a tomboy at heart,” she joked.
Anna will travel to China at the end of this year to represent Northern Ireland in the Miss World Beauty Pageant.
