Late peer’s huge cufflink collection sold off
A STUNNING collection of men’s jewellery owned by the late Lord Ballyedmond is being sold by prestigious London auction house Sothebys.
The billionaire founder of Norbrook Laboratories owned more than 1,000 pairs of cufflinks, crafted from the finest jewels and precious metals.
When he died in a helicopter crash in 2014, the former Edward Haughey (above) was Northern Ireland’s richest man.
Following the Conservative peer’s death, his family decided to sell the contents of his town house in Lon- don’s Belgravia area. Earlier this year, a sale of silver, decorative furniture and pictures from the house realised more than £4m at auction. Last month the prestigious London auction house put up for sale the second tranche of what they’re calling ‘the Ballyedmond Collection’ for online auction, featuring a selection of “elegant gentlemen’s dressing accessories” assembled by Lord Ballyedmond
The event attracted a host of international bidders, and all the items — including pieces by some of the world’s best-known jewellery houses — were sold.
The highest price, £16,250, was paid for pair of sapphire and diamond cufflinks, the Irish Times reported. A third online sale is expected in the autumn.
Lord Ballyedmond died when his AgustaWestland helicopter crashed in heavy fog on March 13, 2014.
