LIMAVADY TRAGEDY WOMAN IN HER 50S KILLED IN EARLY MORNING HOUSE FIRE
THE community of Limavady is in shock after a woman was found dead in a house fire.
The victim, who was aged in her 50s, passed away following the blaze at Grange Park in the town yesterday morning.
A police spokesperson said they received a report of a house fire at around 6.25am.
Emergency services arrived, but the woman was found dead at the scene.
Her identity has not been made public and an investigation into the cause of the fire has started.
A Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) spokesperson revealed that three fire appliances attended the incident after a call was received from the PSNI.
“Tragically a lady has died and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the lady,” she said.
“The fire was out on arrival of fire crews. Three fire appliances from Limavady, Crescent Link and Dungiven fire stations attended the incident.
“A passer-by noticed smoke coming from the house and alerted the emergency services.
“A smoke alarm was also
sounding from the property. The cause of the fire is being investigated.” Sinn Fein East Londonderry MLA Caoimhe Archibald expressed her sympathies to the woman’s family and friends.
“The whole community is shocked by this tragic incident,” she said.
“This is a deeply tragic event and my thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of the woman.
“I wish to pay tribute to the emergency services who attended the scene for their professionalism and their efforts.”
Limavady DUP alderman Alan Robinson also passed on his condolences to the family of the victim.
“Limavady is a very closeknit community where everyone knows everyone,” he said. “In this instance we’ve lost one of our own and our heartfelt condolences go out to the woman’s friends and wider family circle.
“This is a very sad day for Limavady. It’s a tragedy for our town,” he added.
