POLICE RELEASE IMAGES OF 22-YEAR-OLD DEAN ON DAY HE DISAPPEARED

- BY STAFF REPORTER

CCTV footage of missing Dean McIlwaine, recorded on the day he went missing, was released by the police last night.

As the search for the 22-yearold Newtownabbey barber continued, police made public images of Dean entering a Spar shop in the hope that memories might be jogged and the mystery of his disappearance solved.

Last night, a team of 15-20 police officers, with four members of a search and rescue team, continued the search of wasteland behind Carnmoney Cemetery near his home.

Meanwhile, friends and family were continuing with their efforts to find him. Posters have been widely distributed and different locations combed.

PSNI Detective Inspector Chris Millar last night said: “Dean was last seen in the Carnmoney Road area of Newtownab- bey shortly before 1pm on Thursday of last week, 13 July.

“Dean is described as being 5’8” in height; of medium build with blue eyes, dark hair and a beard. He also has sleeve tattoos on both arms.

“It has now been established that Dean was wearing a short sleeve maroon shirt, denim knee length shorts and dark coloured canvas shoes. He was wearing a gold watch on his right wrist.

“Police continue to conduct searches in the local area and we would appeal to Dean, or anyone who has seen him or knows his whereabouts, to make contact with police by calling 101, quoting reference number 121 of 14/7/17.”

On Monday night, a huge crowd gathered at Belfast City Hall to volunteer to help take part in the search.

His brother Glen told the Belfast Telegraph: “We are all distraught — it’s totally out of character for him.”
