YOUNG BOY KILLED
TRAGEDY AS CHILD IS STRUCK BY CAR IN CO ARMAGH ACCIDENT
A VILLAGE was in shock last night at news that a child had died after being hit by a car.
The tragedy happened in Dobson’s Way in the village of Bessbrook, south Armagh, yesterday morning, a PSNI spokesman said.
“Police can confirm that a young boy has died after being struck by a vehicle in Dobson’s Way in Bessbrook this morning, Friday, August 11.
“The young boy was taken to hospital for treatment but unfortunately died from his injuries,” the PSNI said in a statement.
Newry, Mourne and Down Ulster Unionist councillor David Taylor expressed his sincere condolences to the child’s family.
He said: “I am very sorry to hear of the tragic passing of the young boy fatally injured in a traffic accident at Bessbrook today.
“This is a heartbreaking incident which has no doubt left his family distraught and has come as a great shock to the entire local community.”
“My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very sad time and I hope and trust they will find the necessary strength to cope with their grief over the difficult days which lie ahead,” the Slieve Gullion representative added.
Newry and Armagh MLA Justin McNulty took to social media to send a message of sympathy to the boy’s family.
“Horrible accident in Bessbrook,” the SDLP representative wrote on Twitter.
“Thoughts and prayers with the deceased and his family. RIP.”
PSNI Inspector Denise Graham appealed last night for anyone who witnessed the collision, or who had any information about the fatal incident, to contact police in Newry.
