Man arrested after two officers attacked with a knife outside Buckingham Palace

Palace was on lockdown last night after a man with a knife attacked police officers outside the royal residence.

Two officers were injured in the attack, which happened on the Mall just before 9pm.

Police quickly arrested a man suspected of being the attacker.

Two male police officers suffered minor injuries to their arms during the attack.

The London Ambulance Service raced to the incident and both officers were given treatment at the scene.

They did not require hospital treatment.

No other persons were reported to have been injured and the Queen was not in residence during the incident.

She is currently at Balmoral in Scotland.

It is not yet known if the incident is terrorism-related.

Police officers remain on the scene and enquiries are ongoBUCKIN­GHAM ing, the Metropolit­an Police have said.

The attack came just two hours after a man with a machete targeted two soldiers who were on foot patrol in the Belgian capital Brussels.

In that incident, a man was shot dead after attacking two soldiers with a machete in the centre of the city.

Neither of the soldiers attacked are believed to have been seriously harmed.

Witnesses said the attacker shouted “Allahu Akbar” before the incident.

Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel tweeted: “All our support is with our soldiers.

“Our security services remain on alert. We are following the situation closely.”
