Bombardier C Series jets are sold to two airlines
BOMBARDIER delivered two of its Belfast-made C Series jets last month as overall UK aircraft deliveries reached £2.2bn.
The Canadian-owned aerospace giant, which employs more than 4,000 staff in Belfast, delivered CS300s to Swiss Air and Air Baltic.
The passenger jets, of which the wings and part of the fuselage are made in Belfast, make up a total of 107 UK aircraft deliveries last month, according to fresh figures from ADS Group.
Orders for the C Series aircraft have been lower than the company expected.
As a result, Bombardier received a $1bn bailout from the regional Quebec government in Canada.
Meanwhile, the new figures released today from ADS show commercial aircraft deliveries in July 2017 were the highest on record for the month.
“A record July has helped the delivery rate of commercial aircraft to continue to match the record-setting levels of 2016, with 771 aircraft delivered to global airlines from January to July,” it said.
“Of the total, so far this year 557 single-aisle aircraft and 214 wide-body aircraft have been delivered to customers, contributing £15bn to the UK economy.”
Paul Everitt, chief executive of ADS Group, said: “Matching the record-setting pace of 2016 delivery rates demonstrates industry’s focus on improving productivity and capacity to support growing global demand is paying off.
“This is great news for the aerospace industry which is on track for another successful year, underlining the UK’s competitiveness.”
The group said the “record-setting delivery pace continues after a successful Paris Air Show was followed by more orders in July which pushed the order backlog to 13,503”.
