A true fighter... how Carl’s new trainer survived gun attack

- BY CATE McCURRY

CARL Frampton’s new trainer is as tough as they come — Jamie Moore survived a murder attempt after he was shot twice in a suspected case of mistaken identity.

Frampton (30) revealed he is joining forces with the former European champion weeks after splitting from Cyclone Promotions and Shane McGuigan.

The former two-weight world champion made the announcement on social media days after speculation that the pair were close to making a deal.

Manchester-based Jamie was shot in August 2014 during a trip to Spain.

The 38-year-old was near Marbella on the Costa del Sol when he was shot twice.

He was returning from a night out when he was approached and shot by a gunman in what is understood to be a case of mistaken identity.

The first of five bullets fired fractured his right hip bone and another entered his leg.

In an interview months after the attack, he revealed that the lone gunman was wearing a Halloween mask.

He said: “I thought it was a mate taking the p*** because we’re always having the craic.

“Then he shot me in the hip. Bang. I hit the floor.

“He kept shooting and I could feel my body shaking so I knew I’d been shot again. I then heard the car drive off and he basically left me to die.”

He was shot outside a villa belonging to Daniel Kinahan, who is the son of drug lord Christy Kinahan. There is no suggestion that Moore was involved in any criminal activity.

Speaking about joining forces with Frampton, Jamie said: “Carl just sent me a direct message on Twitter, asking for my number so we could have a chat.

“He rang me from Las Vegas, where he’d been out watching the Mayweather-McGregor fight, and just wanted to find out what my situation is and asked if I could train him.

“He called me a few days later once he’d got over his jet lag and we had a few days this week together. To be honest, we clicked straight away.

“There is no long-term or short-term or even temporary deal. I’ve never had a contract to train anyone.

“I will just do a job for Carl to the best of my abilities and I’m sure it will be a successful one.”
