EU demands that border moves to the Irish Sea after Brexit

-

Ciaran Andy Anderson: If you didn’t see this coming you haven’t been watching the show. I can’t believe people are surprised. And it’ll be another little nudge from Westminster to make it easier to cut NI loose in the lon- term. Reunification has always been on the long finger, it’ll be drip-fed into being and all the defiance in the world won’t change that. A sea border suits the EU and Westminster, that’s what will count, not the anger of a minority of flag-bearing chest beaters.

James Alexander: There will be no border on the Irish Sea. The border will be where it should be in any other border — across the land boundary. This is a different country.

Josh Hagans: The EU has no claim to the borders of the UK. The UK is not part of the Schengen passport-free area as it hasn’t signed the Schengen Agreement. This means it can retain border controls therefore still retaining its sovereignty in controlling its own borders and rejecting any EU proposal that would directly breach these powers. The British Government holds the power in this situation, they have a mandate and the referendum result. The EU just haven’t come to terms yet that their corrupt empire has started to crumble.

Mark O’Doherty: Makes incredible sense both socially and for business. This way we get to keep the few things that are right and work for NI the same after Brexit, though I doubt some politicians and people will see it this way ....

Peter Mahon: How did the DUP not see this coming? So drunk on the fumes of nostalgia for some sort of ‘Little England’ that never existed, they actively campaigned for something that will have disastrous economic consequences for Northern Ireland and will seriously weaken their beloved Union.

Matt Geary: We’re all gonna wake up, walk into the shower room and Bobby will walk out... it was all a dream... a dystopian, horror of a dream, but a dream all the same.

Chris McCaw: I wonder if Nelson McCausland would still stick to his line that he doesn’t care what happens as long as we’re out of Europe.
